Not Forever 05:31
The sun will sink away for the moon to take her place Always, but not forever The heart will pass through clouds of thunder rain and mystery Always, but not forever The voice that gives a melody will fade away to silence Always, but not forever Beauty flourishes only to fade, and disappears without a trace Always, but not forever Moods change go up and down, all around, they keep us bound Always, but not forever Passions grow 'till courage fails, subdued by all the mind entails Always, but not forever Though it linger, wait It will certainly come and not delay He put hereafter in the hearts of men It will certainly come and not delay To dust we all return to dust and what has been will be no more Always, but not forever Ramshackle body for the soul to live in, fixed in time and space Always, but not forever Desire wears out like a cloth but then it never fits the same for both Always, but not forever Though it linger, wait It will certainly come and not delay He put hereafter in the hearts of men It will certainly come and not delay I'd better learn how to deal with freedom before eternity comes my way Find the former on the threshold of the latter as you remember there's but one Door to enter Wait It will certainly come and not delay He put hereafter in the hearts of men It will certainly come and not delay

NewDay 04:51
The leaves, I know I saw them crying The trees, altogether sighing And the ground breathed its last after swallowing our past On the day of your depart I didn't have the heart To say the words lying on my tongue to burst into a song about the place where you belong Now it hurts to know that I was wrong with blind eyes all along I must keep holding on to the knowledge that the sun is rising behind my back My hands, I know I felt them trembling my back, aching as it's bending And the twilight disappears as an answer to my fears Kills the hope without a sound If I'd only turn around To see a new day dawning the trees together yawning They urge me to awake say the future is at stake I hear a voice say "darling, keep your heart from hardening See the view that I can make, the light is yours to take" and I turned around and saw the sun rising behind my back

Waiting Room 04:25
Now take the fury leave the passion aside to keep our safety guaranteed Instead place next to it the brilliant sound of laughter to melt it And there'll be light in the waiting room All in the waiting room I can smell the music from up here I'm coming down with my heart held high All the different fragrances in the far away waiting room coming together as one Open up the gate, let me witness the feast of the scents that fly into the endless combinations 'till one is elected to form a song Carry down the colours of yellow, blue and red Black and white already present we have everything we need If any colour's missing we'll use new sounds instead Now who is ready to play the game of endless combination with all that we find in the waiting room I can smell the music from up here I'm coming down with my heart held high All the different fragrances in the far away waiting room coming together as one Open up the gate, let me witness the feast of the scents that fly into the endless combinations 'till one is elected to form a song

B 04:45
With nothing we came And with that we built a house So high that its shoulders Now proudly tower above the crowds We paved the streets with wisdom From north, south, west and east On these our children will march to war Or stroll forever in joyful peace Hey, we're a city full of strangers All people on their own We've come and flocked together And now we are at home We bring the seeds of memory To be planted in a garden green Many more stories high they grow And hold a secret rarely seen There are some dwelling up there Moving in their quarters Finding existence in the trees that we speak In the forest that grows from our hearts Hey, we're a city full of strangers All people on their own We've come and flocked together And now we are at home Words came with power but the rain was stronger And washed them away, let me stand on the edge As the clouds break open, my eyes they open In walks the light that gives birth to the day It's the light we all drink, we all drink from the same It's the water that pours on each one like rain It's the pleasure of love but not without pain Or we turn it around and it turns into shame There's the master and servant, existing today In the alleys of one hundred nights on the way There's the getting lost in what's needless to say So let's leave it unsaid and decide to stay... …in a city full of strangers All people on their own We've come and flocked together And now we are at home

about

I recorded this small EP during my student years, together with a couple of my jazz buddies in Brussels. It was the first time I recorded my own work in a professional studio. These are such fond memories. This EP consists of four songs that I wrote around that time, in my early twenties. It includes the song "B" which stands for Brussels, speaking of diversity in community, the beauty of variety among people and how in the end we all yearn for the same things.
The song "NewDay" is very close to my heart, all these years later I still perform it often. It speaks of a turnaround moment in my life when I thought hope was lost, though all I had to do was bravely turn around and face another horizon where new light was shimmering after all.
